Schock crowned first North Dakota WSOP winner

Mitch Schock won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Mixed Pot-Limit Championship at the Rio casino and resort in Las Vegas this weekend to become the first champion to hail from North Dakota.

In total, his prize money for the event was $310,225, with the 40-year-old poker professional securing the biggest win of his career in the process - having begun playing full time back in 1996.

He commented following his victory: "This is great. There are probably like 500 people following me online back in North Dakota. I know a lot of different people in poker from many of the things I do."

Schock is no stranger to the WSOP however, as he has reached five final tables in the last 15 years and finished in the money on 20 occasions.

Elsewhere, online poker sensation Tom 'durrrr' Dwan is still hoping to get his hands on his first WSOP winner's gold bracelet after getting knocked out of the $10,000 HORSE championship in fifth last Thursday (June 23rd).
