Sorel Mizzi has announced the launch of a new charity that aims to help homeless individuals and those living in poverty in the US.
The Poker Players Against Poverty initiative is being backed by a number of poker pros, with each agreeing to donate a proportion of their winnings to the organisation over the coming years.
"I came from a very modest family," Mizzi said. "I didn't have those great things growing up. I can totally see how people get in those situations."
To date, the 25-year-old has secured winnings throughout his poker career in excess of $4 million, meaning the charity may be in for a number of windfalls over the coming months if his luck holds out.
Meanwhile, a new $1 million buy-in poker tournament is being organised by the World Series of Poker in order to help communities that do not have access to clean water in developing countries.
The Big One for One Drop will take place next year and has already received support from numerous big-name players, including Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan, Tom Dwan and Tony Guoga.
