Poker pro Mark Schmid has won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) $1,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament.
He picked up a check for $488,283 after defeating a field of 3,144 players, while he also got his hands on his first WSOP gold winner's bracelet.
Having finished in the money on six previous occasions in WSOP events, Schmid knew all about keeping his cool at the final table, ensuring that this time, he was able to go a step further and take down the win.
"There are wild swings in tournament poker. All you can do is make the best possible decision and hope for the best. It all worked out for me tonight," he commented after his victory.
Earlier this week, Oleksii Kovalchuk became only the second Ukrainian ever to land a WSOP title.
He was crowned the $2,500 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em champion at the Rio casino and resort in Las Vegas and bagged winnings of $689,739.
