Annie Duke's run on the Celebrity Apprentice TV show, which saw her go all the way to the final where she was beaten by comedian Joan Rivers, has been named as one of 2009's biggest poker stories.
Poker News put the card sharp's achievement sixth in its ongoing countdown, ahead of the growing popularity of Twitter among the sport's stars, the relatively large number of players to win multiple bracelets at the summer's World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Mike Sexton's election to the hall of fame.
The publication indicated that while there have been a number of other big headline items over the course of the last 12 months, her performance was the "one that brought the most attention to the game".
"Duke repeatedly showed her competitive spirit against Rivers (and her competitors) on national television, which helped promote poker in a positive light," it added.
The show easily overshadowed the player's relatively quiet year on the felt, which saw her cash in just two major live tournaments.
