Massachusetts casino 'will provide jobs', says Mohegan Sun

A new casino in Massachusetts would help provide more jobs for people in the state, according to Mohegan Sun.

It claimed that if a venue was approved in the west of the state, thousands of job opportunities would be created, reports the Associated Press.

Mohegan Sun claimed that about 1,000 construction jobs would be available if the Palmer casino was given the go-ahead.

There would also be between 2,500 and 3,000 positions opened up on a permanent basis within the casino.

As well as generating income for the state in from taxes, the area would benefit from an increase in tourism revenue, the firm added.

However, Paul Brody, vice president of development for Mohegan Sun, said the casino would not be built unless there was regional support for the project.

This comes after Mohegan Sun officials announced that a series of meetings with the local community would be held so people can get answers to questions about the potential development.
