Slot revenues down in Connecticut casinos

Revenues from slot machines at Connecticut's casinos were down in September compared to the same period the year before.

Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand suffered a three per cent decline in takings last month, with revenue dropping from $56.4 million in September 2008 to $54.8 million this year.

However, the drop was even more pronounced at Mohegan Sun, which saw slot returns plummet 11 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Despite the drop at Foxwoods, officials at the gaming establishment remained positive about the performance of the casino.

Michael Speller, president of Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises, commented: "These results represent our best month in market share since May."

This comes after Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun announced the end of its summer campaign to attract New Jersey and New York customers, the Norwich Bulletin reported.

Their billboard campaign aimed to draw away gamers from New Jersey's gaming hub Atlantic City and it lasted until the end of September.
