Face the Ace to kick off next month

NBC's poker show Face the Ace will start on August 1st 2009 and is to be hosted by Steve Schirripa of The Sopranos fame.

He told Poker News Daily that the show is the "first of its kind to air in primetime on a broadcast network".

In the program, four poker pros will sit behind glass doors and one will be selected by the contestant to play against in heads-up no-limit hold'em.

Anyone who can defeat one of the experts will win $40,000, but this can be gambled for the chance to win $200,000.

Those who manage to defeat four "aces" will claim the ultimate prize of $1 million.

Pros who defeat contestants will claim $10,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice.

Among those taking part will be Patrik Antonius, Andy Bloch, Jennifer Harman, John Juanda, Erik Seidel, Huck Seed and Phil Ivey.

Ivey is currently one of the last nine in the World Series of Poker main event and he stands to win between $1.2 million and $8.5 million.
