The organisers of the Aussie Millions poker series have released the schedule for the 2009 edition.
Beginning on January 4th and finishing on January 26th, the poker extravaganza will feature 17 preliminary tournaments, building up to the AU$2 million (US$1.29 million) guarantee main event.
Initially a minor competition with a AU$1,000 buy-in, the Aussie Millions main event has grown to be one of the biggest poker tournaments in the world.
In 2008, Alexander Kostritsyn received AU$1,650,000 for taking victory, AU$150,000 more than Gus Hansen picked up for winning the year before.
Since its debut in 1998, the final table of the tournament has featured some of the world's best-known card sharps, including Lee Nelson (2001), Ram Vaswani (2003), Joe Beevers (2003), Marcel Luske (2005), Nenad Medic (2006), Shannon Shorr (2006) and Erik Seidel (2008).
The 2006 version had arguably the most famous line-up of all, with Jimmy Fricke, Andy Black, Mark Karam and Kristy Gazes joining Hansen for the last day.
