A World Series of Poker (WSOP) Asia event can be expected over the next decade, one expert has predicted.
Casino Review Magazine's deputy editor Hugh Sorrill claimed there will "almost certainly" be WSOP competitions held on the continent in the near future, but "it might take a few years to start up".
The WSOP branched out for the first time in 2007, when the inaugural WSOP Europe was held in London.
It followed substantial growth in Europe's poker scene and Asia's card-playing circuit appears to be following in its footsteps, with the Asian Poker Tour and Asia Pacific Poker Tour both posting record figures this year.
Referring to Asia's gamblers and suggesting just why the continent may have to wait a bit before it gets a WSOP event, Mr Sorrill remarked: "They are not there yet and are focused, almost exclusively, on games of chance rather than the necessary skill element of poker, but I'm sure it will come."
