Poker players place golf bets

The Ryder Cup was the subject of a number of side bets between some top poker players over the weekend.

Daniel Negreanu revealed in his Full Contact Poker blog that he, Layne Flack, Brandon Cantu, John Juanda and Phil Hellmuth all watched the competition together on Saturday, with the latter two and Kid Poker engaging in some golf gambling.

"Essentially we made on putts - make or miss. I would make a line on a putt and they could bet either side," the Canadian explained.

"I laid 18/1 on a putt that barely missed, that was a bit scary."

Negreanu claimed that he broke even, while Juanda took $3,500 off Hellmuth, despite the Indonesian-born card sharp having no interest in the game whatsoever.

Many professional poker players are known to be keen fans of golf, with Negreanu often discussing it at length in his posts.
