Poker stars to play at New Zealand tournament

A number of world-class poker stars are set to make an appearance at a poker tournament to be held in New Zealand next month, it has emerged.

The country's Skycity Festival of Poker is set to run from October 4th to 12th. Held at Skycity Auckland Casino, the event will feature single and multi-table satellite tournaments, which will conclude in a main event held over three days.

According to organisers, a number of world-class poker players are set to attend the inaugural event, including previous World Series of Poker champions Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer.

Other players scheduled to compete in October include the 2007 APPT Macau High Roller champion and Lee Nelson, co-host of New Zealand's Celebrity Joker Poker.

"I am thrilled to be able to play in a tournament of this quality on home soil," said Nelson.

"With the numbers expected for the event and the prize pool at stake there is a good chance that new local talent will be discovered and the title be taken by a New Zealander."

In addition to its casino, Skycity Auckland boasts a hotel and a number of restaurants and bars.
