Chan Poker is no more

The Johnny Chan-endorsed poker portal Chan Poker has shut down after two years of operation.

In a message posted on its website, the firm announced that as of Thursday 21st August all operations have ceased.

"Rest assured that all withdrawal requests will be honored and promptly processed," said Chan Poker in a statement.

The website never did particularly well in the highly competitive online market, despite its links with the poker legend, according to famed internet journal the Do or Die Poker blog.

Chan is one of the most successful poker players of all-time, having won ten World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets during his career, including back-to-back victories in two main events.

He came agonisingly close to winning a consecutive hat-trick of main events at the end of the 1980s, eventually finishing second after losing a heads-up with Phil Hellmuth, the only person to have won more WSOP titles than the Chinese competitor.
