Mardle continues strong performances from poker celebs

Wayne Mardle has continued what has arguably been the most successful summer to date for poker-playing celebrities.

The five-time World Darts Championship semi-finalist reached the final table of leg six of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) competition in Luton over the weekend, finishing in seventh place.

His success follows that of ex-EastEnders actor Michael Greco, who reached a final table at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) earlier this year.

Greco also took part in the GUKPT event, but failed to reach the money.

Snooker great Steve Davis and cricket legend Shane Warne are two other notable sportsmen to have performed well on the felt in recent months.

Davis reached the money bubble for the second time in three years in the WSOP main event, while Warne just missed out after a run which lasted three days.

Prior to the GUKPT tournament, Mardle gave advice to a number of cricketers at a darts benefit, according to Stuart Broad's column in the Mirror.
