Author Irvine Welsh has stated that he has a fondness for the gaming resorts of Monte Carlo, saying that he likes going to stylish locations for his holidays.
The writer of Trainspotting noted that visitors had to be prepared to lose and that while this can happen to everyone eventually, it is the rush of the game that attracts rather than the money, reports the Times.
For Welsh, gambling in the casino hotspot is the realisation of a "Bond fantasy" and he "loves it", regardless of whether he is successful at it or not.
The 49-year-old commented: "I like chic places. There's nothing better than putting on a white suit and going to a casino in Monte Carlo."
Welsh's novels tend to focus on the seedy underside of society and often deal with issues relating to drug use and addiction, such as in Trainspotting and Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance.
