Donald Trump has attacked the decision to ban smoking on Atlantic City's gambling floors.
In an interview with the Press of Atlantic City, the casino owner said that New Jersey would lose "hundreds of millions of dollars" in tax revenue, while gaming resorts would find it difficult to compete against those in nearby states.
"It's a sad day for Atlantic City," he remarked.
The local council decided unanimously to ban smoking in the gambling capital on Wednesday night.
People had been allowed to light up on 25 per cent of the floor for the past year, but they will now only be able to smoke in designated rooms - well away from slots and table games.
Mr Trump said that if it was up to him, the Casino Association would file a lawsuit.
Atlantic City has been struggling in recent years and during last month suffered a decrease in revenue figures compared to 2007.
