Isaac Baron, the 2007 winner of Card Player's Online Player of the Year (OPOY) award, is currently second in this year's competition.
Known as westmenloAA, or the guru 11 on some websites, Baron shot up the rankings following a 720-point win over the weekend.
He has made $167,698 from OPOY scoring events alone this year and gathered 2,288 points in total.
Tomgus456 is the leader after almost two months of action, 304 points ahead of Baron on 2,592. He has benefited from three big wins, which have earned him $320,474.
Baron is already more than a quarter of the way to matching his winning score of 8,304 from last year.
The Californian has earned $1.2 million in total from OPOY tournaments, a massive feat for such a young player.
As of last year, Baron could not play in live US events because he was too young.
