Darren Kramer won the biggest event of his career this week when he emerged victorious at the South African Poker Open (Sapo).
The home-country player entered the eight-man final table in fifth, according to Poker News, but managed to overcome the odds by turning around a 2:1 disadvantage to win the heads-up against Chris Convery.
His $140,575 winnings are far greater than any notable amount he won last year, as indicated by The Hendon Mob poker database.
It was the second Sapo to have taken place, with the MonteCasino Resort in Johannesburg again playing host.
Card Player reported that that 175 people took part in the 25,000 rand ($3,244) buy-in event, including noted South African Raymond Rahme who failed to make the final cut.
Convery won $95,826 for coming second, while Michael Holm received $63,845 for third.
The final table also featured Grant Nelson, Danny K, Anton Bertilsson, Berny Lengenfender and Melanie Banfield.
