New research has revealed that ten per cent of UK adults play poker every single day.
Market analyst Mintel found nearly 25 percent of Brits have taken part in a few hands at least once in the last 12 months, while more than half of this amount player every week, according to 999 Today.
"The popularity of poker has soared in recent years as the game undoubtedly has an element of cool that is lacking from many other forms of gambling," said Matt King, Mintel spokesman.
He added that 540 hours of poker were shown on television in 2006 and that this had "played a key role" in poker's popularity.
Half of those who play poker also watch it, the study showed.
Mintel also revealed recently that more poker is played in Wales than in any other part of the UK.
