Just a few days after its last major event finished, the World Poker Tour (WPT) is continuing at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The Borgata Winter Poker Open is traditionally a much bigger event than last week's World Poker Open and this year is no different, with a field of 507 players competing for a winner's prize of $1.4 million, according to Card Player. This jackpot is $508,000 more than in last week's tournament.
As with all WPT events, dozens of the best players from the poker world were taking part and this meant there were some huge casualties early on.
Day 1a saw TJ Cloutier, Jonathan Little, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein and Phil Ivey eliminated, while John Phan, Vanessa Rousso, John Spadavecchia, Bill Edler and Tom Dwan all stayed in the competition.
Lenny Cortellino led the chip count at the end of the first day's action with 213,000.
