Builders have started work on the Casino Arizona resort in Scottsdale, Maricopa County, it has been reported
The project, scheduled for completion by 2010, will cover 1.2 million square-feet, including a 240,000-square-foot casino and a 100,000-square-foot conference centre, according to the Arizona Republic.
It will also feature several restaurants, a spa and a hotel with 497 rooms.
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community owns the casino, which will replace the tented Bend casino, just a few miles south of the new site.
Spokesperson for Casino Arizona Russ Burbank said: "We're looking for a four-star-plus type of operation.
"It will certainly be positioned in the market with the peer groups out there."
The resort will be 15 stories high, which makes it taller than anything else nearby, with regulations prior to 2006 limiting buildings to just 13 stories.
Casino Arizona is renowned for its high-class dining facilities, including the five-star Cholla restaurant.
