Casino dealers in Connecticut have voted to unionize after several months of debate.
In a vote this weekend, workers at the famous Foxwoods Resort Casino decided to join the United Auto Works (UAW) union, which already represents casino workers from Atlantic City and Detroit, according to the Associated Press (AP).
Foxwoods is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Indians and a member of the UAW believes the vote could have an effect on tribal casinos across the country.
Elizabeth Bunn was quoted by the AP as saying: "It's a significant step forward for gaming employees who work on tribal lands."
"I think it will embolden workers at other tribal casinos," she added.
Workers voted in favor of the motion by 1,289 to 852 votes. Foxwoods owners had tried to prevent the vote from taking place but their appeal was rejected by the National Labor Relations Board.
Foxwoods is one of the world's largest casinos with 340,000 sq ft of gaming space.
