Nicolas Cage is set to play the part of legendary poker player Thomas Austin Preston Jr, known more commonly as Amarillo Slim.
The star of The Rock and Face/Off is the favorite to play the 1972 World Series of Poker (WSOP) winner, according to the Associated Press.
Some of the film will be shot in Texas and it is currently in development.
It is possible that it will be based on Slim's autobiography, Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People.
Slim has seemingly lived an interesting life, where he has not only picked up four WSOP bracelets but also been kidnapped by Pablo Escobar.
He has played poker with Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson and Larry Flynt - among others - and in recent years has been mugged at gunpoint and shot at.
Milos Forman, who directed The People vs Larry Flynt, is to direct the film.
