Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Barney Frank will challenge the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) in April, it has been revealed.
Writing in the Poker Player Newspaper, author Wendeen H Eolis said that Frank had offered her a cryptic clue as to his intentions by reciting part of a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longefellow.
Ms Eolis revealed that the following lines of the poem contained a reference to April 18th, and took that to be the date on which Frank would begin his attempts at repealing the law.
Ms Eolis also noted that the congressman was currently researching the subject ahead of the April date, and revealed that chairman of the Poker Players' Alliance Alfonse D'Amato had told her that he had "touched base" with Frank earlier in the month.
Earlier this year Frank said of the UIGEA: "I am working on legislation to cut back on this internet gambling thing […] I think it's preposterous."
