A five star hotel casino to be built on Papua New Guinea will significantly boost tourist numbers in the region, according to business representatives.
The resort, Papua New Guinea's first five star hotel facility, will be built in Port Moresby by South Korean firm CMSS, with work scheduled to begin later this year.
The firm has signed an agreement with CMSS ensuring that construction will be able to go ahead as planned, the Papua New Guinea Post Courier has revealed.
"PNG has a lot of foreigners, who like to gamble including wealthy businessmen and politicians, but because there are no avenues provided, they fly overseas to Cairns and spend millions of kina there and the country misses out," said CMSS managing director Jimmy Kim, the Post Courier reports.
"As you know investment doesn't need a barrier, all you have to do is put your money where you think it can work and get the right people to run the show," he added.
With 80 per cent of Papua New Guinea's population living in rural areas, it is likely the resort will remain a luxury destination for visitors from Australasia and beyond.
