Stars lead way at Aussie Millions

The main event at the Aussie Millions poker tournament has begun in Australia, with a lavish opening ceremony and a number of famous faces being the highlights.

The three day tournament begin with song and dance as organisers laid on a celebratory spectacle, before play itself got underway courtesy of competitors including Mark Philippoussis, Shannon Elizabeth and infamous cricket player Shane Warne.

This year's Aussie Millions seems to have been the most popular yet, as the main event began with 358 players in the first half of the tournament alone, all competing against well-known names such as Howard Lederer, Scott Fischman and Chris Ferguson.

By the end of the day's play, however, celebrities and professionals alike had been eliminated, with a number of online players still remaining alongside some pre-tournament favourites.

Philippoussis, Warne, Fischman and Roland de Wolfe were among those who failed to make the second day.

Unofficial chip counts put Patrick Antonius in the lead at the end of the day's play. Antonius began his career playing online before moving on to professional tournaments.
