A new display in London's Harrods department store has helped reignite rumours regarding the retail giant's interest in Las Vegas.
A model of a potential Harrods Las Vegas site is on display in the London store, bringing to mind owner Mohamed al-Fayed's comments in 2005 regarding the issue.
Mr al-Fayed then confirmed that plans for a Harrods venue in Las Vegas were under consideration, mentioning that the new complex would include a casino, hotel and shopping arcade. The comment sparked rumours that Mr al-Fayed would seek to build a new Ritz hotel on the site to go along with his Paris Ritz property. But little has been heard on the matter since then.
However, with the display being featured so prominently in-store, and the designs available from an architect's website, progress appears to have finally been made.
Harrods was founded in 1835 by Charles Henry Harrod, a grocer and tea salesman. From such modest beginnings the store has grown to cover a 4.5 acre site, and now describes itself as the world's most famous department store.
