The average demographic of person who gambles on the internet is an affluent college-educated male who is under 40, according to a new survey.
Undertaken by Peter D Hart Research Associates for inclusion in the American Gaming Association's (AGA) 2006 State of the States, the study looked at underlying trends in the internet gambling industry.
It also revealed the interesting fact that 70 per cent of internet gamblers began the activity in the last two years a sign of the growing nature of the industry.
However, a significant proportion of those questioned were unconvinced of their fellow players' honesty with 46 per cent saying they believed cheating went on.
Frank Fahrenkopf Jr, AGA CEO, said: "We strive to make each year's State of the States report the most comprehensive information resource not only on the current state of our industry, but the most significant emerging trends in gaming, so it was important that we take a look at this [internet gambling] growing phenomenon."
