Woman wins $2.5m on slot machine

A woman from Louisiana won $2.5 million on a 25 cent slot machine at a local casino at the weekend.

Charlotte Holzclaw visited Horseshoe Casino & Hotel in Bossier City, where she goes about three times a year with her husband and parents.

However, this time she got lucky when it appeared she had won a special bonus on the slot machine she had been playing on.

At first she thought she had won $100,000 but then it emerged she had grossly miscalculated her winnings.

"Winning the $100,000 was a lot of fun," Ms Holtzclaw said. "But then someone told me, 'Ma'am, you didn't win $100,000. You've won the progressive.' I almost passed out."

Ms Holtzclaw won $5,000 on a $1 slot machine at the same casino around a dozen years ago, but her previous winnings no doubt paled into significance after the weekend's events.

She plans to give half her winnings to her parents and $30,000 to each of her two sons, while the rest will be put in investment, the Shreveport Times reports.
